Cami Pendell to address Michigan economic growth

Attorney Cami Pendell, Mackinac Center for Public Policy’s senior director of strategy, will speak at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, to the ERC Forum at The War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Rd., Grosse Pointe Farms.

Tuesday’s presentation will address Michigan’s economic stagnation and legislative steps necessary to get the state growing again. For this month only, the ERC Forum at The War Memorial is moved to the second Tuesday.

Election integrity focus of ERC Forum

Election integrity activist Darlene K. Hennessy will speak at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, to the Eastside Republican Club at The War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Rd., Grosse Pointe Farms. 

Hennessy is an experienced volunteer on behalf of organizations such as Michigan Fair Elections Institute and Check My Vote with responsibility for their Wayne County volunteer operations. 

“Ms Hennessy has been extensively involved in securing Michigan’s elections and, therefore, can provide valuable insight in how we can make them too big to rig,” said club chairman Renee Strobl in a statement in advance of the meeting.

Forum doors open at 7 p.m. for coffee and networking in advance of the 7:30 meeting. The public is invited to the forum which will conclude with an opportunity for audience members to ask questions.

Republican Club to hear Journalist

Michigan journalist and podcast host James David Dickson will address the Eastside Republican Club Tuesday, Nov. 19, with a forward-looking message.

Dickson’s topic “Morning again in Michigan: What to expect in 2025,” will focus on state and local affairs in light of 2024 General Election results.

Tuesday’s presentation will be at The War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Farms. Forum doors open for coffee and networking at 7 p.m.

“Mr. Dickson is a skilled journalist and blogger with keen insight into Michigan’s changing voting patterns, so we look forward to hearing his thoughts on the election impact,” said club chairman Mike Vethacke in a statement in advance of the meeting.

There is no charge for the Forum, which will include an opportunity to ask questions of Dickson.

Hopefuls for Congress and State Rep on tap

GOP candidates Martell Bivings and Griffin Wojtowicz will speak at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, to the Eastside Republican Club at The War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Rd., Grosse Pointe Farms.

Bivings is campaigning to represent the 13th U.S. Congressional District and Wojtowicz is a candidate for State House of Representatives District 10. Though with different boundaries, both districts span all or part of the Pointes, Harper Woods and a portion of Detroit. The congressional district also includes several downriver communities.

“Both races involve unique circumstances,”said club chairman Mike Vethacke.

State Board of Ed member Tom McMillian speaks to Sept. Forum

Tom McMillin, member of the Michigan State Board of Education since 2016, speaks to the Eastside Republican Club Forum in Grosse Pointe Farms on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

McMillian will address public education funding, COVID “learning loss” experienced by students and other issues.

The 7:30 p.m. forum is open to the public and will be held at The War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Farms. Forum doors open for coffee and networking at 7 p.m.

McMillin served six years in the Michigan House of Representative where he was chairman of the House Oversight committee, the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules and the House Education committee. McMillin was reelected twice and served until term limited in 2014.

Previously, McMillin served as an Oakland County Commissioner, Mayor of Auburn Hills and for nine years as an Auburn Hills City Councilman.

Lake-side breezes and Patterson Park shade promise to welcome Eastside Republican Club members and guests gathering for their 22nd annual summer picnic at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 9.

The Sunday event will run from 1 to 4 p.m.

Youth Leaders to February Forum

Rylee Linting, Michigan Republican Party Youth Vice Chair, will speak at Tuesday, Feb. 20, to the Eastside Republican Club at The War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Rd., Grosse Pointe Farms.

Also on the program will be Ben Estell who serves as chairman, Young Americans for Freedom on the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus.

“We look forward to hearing about these leaders’ success in recruiting college-age and other young people for service in Republican campaigns and how we can assist in that effort,” said Eastside Republican chairman Mike Vethacke in a statement in advance of the meeting.

Forum doors open at 7 p.m. for coffee and networking in advance of the meeting. There is no charge for the Forum, which will include an opportunity for asking questions.

Linting and Estell will be joined by Dr. Rob Steele, Michigan’s GOP national committeeman and member of the Republican National Committee. First elected to the RNC in 2016, Steele has worked as a cardiologist since 1987.

The ERC invites area students and young people to learn ways to connect with others to engage in meaningful civic activities on their own campus or in their local community.

James David Dickson, managing editor of Michigan Capitol Confidential, a daily news site of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, will address the Eastside Republican Club Tuesday, Oct. 17. .

Dickson will help clarify issues surrounding a growing movement to circumvent the Electoral College, officially the “National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.”

Randall Thompson

Randall Thompson, founder and managing partner of Pulse Communications, speaks to the Eastside Republican Club Forum on Tuesday, May 16, at The War Memorial, 32 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Farms.

An insider who has worked in the highest level of state and federal politics for more than two decades, Thompson will address what he sees as the future path for Michigan GOP to gain seats in the legislature and election to key statewide executive offices.

The 7:30 p.m. forum is open to the public. Forum doors open for coffee and networking at 7 p.m.

Thompson has served as chief of staff for members in both the Michigan House of Representatives and the U.S. Congress. Additionally, he has served as spokesman and communications director for the Michigan Attorney General and Secretary of State.

Outside of public service, the Michigan native served as Midwest director for a major Washington D.C.-based issue advocacy organization, campaigning for lower taxes, less government and more freedom.
